Tacony Manufacturing Wins the 2003 Missouri Industry Award in the small-based classification

Jefferson City, MO - Tacony Manufacturing of St. James has been awarded the 2003 Missouri Industry of the Year Award in the small company classification. The Award, sponsored by Associated Industries of Missouri (AIM), and the Mid-Missouri Business Journal annually recognizes the best and brightest Missouri businesses that have become leaders in making Missouri a better place to live and work.

Tacony Manufacturing assembles high quality, high-end vacuum cleaners. In addition to vacuum cleaner assembly, Tacony has acquired warranty repairs to sewing machines and vacuum cleaners for re-distribution to their dealers. The introduction of the sewing machine repair department has made it essential to hire more technicians, additional warehousing, and expansion of their facility and the creation of the Technical Services Department.

Tacony’s focus is customer satisfaction and pursuit of perfection. The customer relationship and dedication of excellence drives their process that has enabled Tacony to meet customer expectations and to anticipate the customer’s needs. In Tacony’s quest to become a world-class manufacturer, they have relied heavily on employee involvement by empowering the employee to identify problems and implement solutions.

Tacony’s involvement with the community has been a partnership with the Boys and Girls Town of Missouri in a mentorship program. Youth betterment programs with Nelson Hart Community Center, Missouri National Guard, Head Start Program, American Red Cross, and St. James Kiwanis Club, just to name a few. Tacony is committed to making a difference in the surrounding communities through donations, volunteering, sponsoring and financial backing.

Representative Bob May visits the Tacony facility and/or contacts them regularly for input concerning legislative issues. A responsibility that Tacony takes seriously is to keep informed of governmental matters that directly affect the schools, employees and impacts their ability to be competitive or restricts our flexibility to meeting changing market conditions.

Tacony Manufacturing was also the recipient of the Missouri Impact! An award for continuous improvement in manufacturing excellence from the Missouri Enterprise Business Assistance Center.

Tacony Manufacturing, and two other companies, will receive the Award during ceremonies on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at the State Capitol Building, 1st Floor Rotunda. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m.

Other winners include SSM Health Care (large classification), St. Louis, and Hollister, Inc. (medium classification), Kirksville.

On Wednesday, April 16, Industry Day on the Hill will showcase the Award winners, as well as other companies, on the 1st and 3rd Floor Rotunda at the State Capitol in Jefferson City. Industry Day on the Hill is designed to bring industry leaders together as a united voice in the halls of the Capitol and for the general public to become more aware of the role that business and industry play in the state’s economy.
